Hey my question is just if I should retake cell biology. I withdrew the first time I took it and got a C- the second attempt. Only Science grade with lower than a B- and my lowest grade in all of my undergraduate career (2 grades C+ in non science classes) my gpa is 3.55-3.6 and MCAT is 510.

I really had a difficult time with this class. I was averaging a B until the final which ultimately gave me a C-. That semester I overloaded on credits (24 credits- 7 classes). Studied so hard and I don't really want to retake it in all honestly. It's known as one of the hardest science classes in my school.

Should I retake it, opinions please? Will D.O. Schools care too much about this course because it's not a prerequisite for admission.

Thank you very much to all

You don't have to retake it for D.O.

I'm no expert on this at all...better to ask one of the adcoms and more experienced people. All I can tell you is if it were me, yea. I'd probably re-take for an A.

What is your science gpa. Theoretically, you could have close to a 3.0 sci gpa if you got B's in every other science course or a 4.0 if you got A's in them all. Either way, you're good for many DO schools but be mindful that if you sci gpa is less than a 3.25, you might auto-screened out a very few amount of schools ( i dunno the exact number...4?). In such a case, it would be worth retaking it if you are interested in applying to those specific schools. Otherwise, apply and have fun!

Well, there you have it OP. Let's see if others chime in as well.

To be fair OP may be asked about it during an interview but the GPA and MCAT overall are good. OP is competitive for all D.O. schools.

His science is 3.6 and its only kcu that officially does that but they they have a 2/3 rule for cgpa sgpa and mcat

Hey I'm sorry I forgot to mention the specifics of my gpa.
CGPA 3.55-3.6
SGPA 3.55-3.6

Isn't there VCOM who does a 3.2 cutoff along with someone else? Regardless, OP is more than set for action

Thanks for the answers everyone. Would it be safe to say no need to retake it? If any adcoms see this post please your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Idk about that 2/3 rule. I know they're being a little more lenient this year with the MCAT score because of the new test, but unless you have some kind of extenuating circumstances or such (like a graduate GPA), they try and stick to those minimums pretty strictly.

As for OP, as long as the rest of your GPA is good, which it looks fine, I don't think a retake is necessary. It wouldn't hurt if you could get above a B+, but it's not that bad either.

Supernatural makes sense. For DO probably OK. Ask Goro.

I wouldn't retake it but I would worry why you did not do better. Not saying you aren't smart just saying you will have a lot of classes each block of med school and of course they are based off of biology etc.

Hey thanks for the input and honestly it's my fault because I overloaded myself with 7 classes that semester which was 24 credits.

Yeah man I totally feel you I graduated undergrad and masters a year early each and worked three jobs on campus so I know the struggle of every semester over 20 hours.

@Goro would this be a possible concern on interview day?, do you think there's a possibility that a question could be raised about this C- if I decide not to retake it given the rest of my academic history. Thank you

Don't bother retaking it. I would spend my time taking another upper-level class if you
