Had a migraine during my DAT a week ago and life just did not do me well.

AA 17

Sucks but it is what it is. Options are - retake in 90 days and be super late in the cycle or just apply broadly and go for it

If I were you I'd definitely retake. In my experience those scores are just way to low to be offset by a great GPA or EC in most cases. Last cycle I applied very broadly with a 17TS and only got one interview looking back I should have retaken mine a lot sooner.

great EC's and LORs
I agree with @yasc that you should probably retake it. You nailed reading, which is awesome! 17s are considered low average, but I don’t let those scores phase you and retake it in the next 90 days, even if it causes you to apply late. If you feel comfortable with the material, I would just lightly study during the 90 days approaching the test and just put your best effort forward! Your GPA and ECs are great, so a decent DAT score (19-20) should get you into just about any dental school in the country! Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the response! Should I tell schools that I'm planning to retake so they don't reject me immediately due to my current score? Or how does that work?

I’m not 100% positive, but I think you just retake it, and they’ll receive both scores. I’m also not sure about the scoring policy, the schools could either superscore or take the most recent test score, but again I’m not totally sure (varies by school, I’d imagine).
