I am 25, finally finishing undergrad after slacking and working during first few.. (many) years of college.

Average student, with one really bad semester.. GPA was 2.8ish before attending GSU this past summer. After this fall semester, I ended with a 3.14oGPA and 4.00 sGPA from GSU. I'll be graduating this coming summer with about 23 credits to go.

I took my DAT this afternoon, resulting in some very terrible scores in GC, OC, and QR.

PAT - 22
QR - 17
RC - 22
Bio - 19
GC - 14
OC -16

TS - 16
AA - 18

I'm definitely thinking a retake is in order due to the horrendous TS.🙁
What do you guys think?

/rant.

Yeah I would retake. Good lucks!

Yeah that GC and OC are deal breakers. Gotta make sure they're at least 18. Your overall GPA should come up after your 23 credits. I'd keep taking more classes if I were you.

Wow that's a rough spread. What was your prep routine?

What was your study routine ?

And I am your age .

Consider this your expensive practice test , but if you think u have what it takes to be A dentist on paper and in heart do the application process and see what happens , it will be a wild crap shot ! But u never know and hey , if you don't get accepted , you do it agian next year.!!!!

I say apply risk some money and . . . You'll see !

Let us know.

I'm applying this year no matter what !

My position: pre reqs not finished,

DAT not taken but scheduling for this April or June .

And hoping I will get accepted for 2014 and if I do I will do the pre reqs for the school I'm accepted for !

I am also a student at GSU! I will be applying places this semester. Same AA and PAT but I got an 18 TS. I probably won't retake and take my chances.

haha no way!
I'm taking a bunch of 4xxx bio classes this semester, are you a part of GSU AUDA?

I graduated from GSU in May and was apart of AUDA as well! What a small world 😀

I think the pre-dental advisor is Dr. Pascoe

I started studying late October, during fall semester.
I started with the Kaplan book, reviewed my bio and upto GC with it.
Then I started Chad's videos for GC/OC, but apparently I didn't retain much at all. It's been about 1.5 years since I took GC, and I haven't taken OC2 yet (taking this spring). I used the DAT Destroyer in conjunction with Chad's videos.

I tried studying as much as possible, with the time I had left over from classes. During the fall semester, I tried to get in at least 12 hr/wk. After the break, I started putting in 30hr/wk.

Starting 1/1, I started practice tests (Achiever) and found out that I was WAY behind. So, I started studying those tests by going over what I missed and jotting notes the entire day from 9am - 2am until the night before. I felt pretty confident with RC and hardly studied it. For PAT, I used CDP and only took three tests and felt it was enough, apparently it wasnt.

I'll be taking 19cr this semester, 2cr during maymester, and 5cr during summer.
I'm thinking I'll send out my apps and retake during July(?) and get the scores sent in to the schools.

No but I will be joining this semester. Whenever all the clubs had meetings last semester I had a class so I could never attend. I am taking Microbiology w/ lab, Organic Chemistry 2, and iGEM (Biol 4905) so I could get some experience in research and such. I am also taking a few other classes for my degree. Still in my junior year. Is GHSU your number 1 choice for dental school?

Yeah, I'll be applying to GHSU in the coming cycle.
I'll be taking Orgo2 too! Maybe we'll meet, haha.
If you're taking Micro, Parilla is pretty good. I had her last semester, and although she gives a lot of work, you learn and retain a good bit.

I'm thinking I will send out as many apps as I can afford, I can't wait around another year...

Yeah I understand I do not want to wait either. I'm sure no one does lol
I'll try to apply to about 10 schools. I am currently trying to make a list of 10-15 so I can narrow it down.

GHSU is my top choice, since it's in-state... but it wouldn't kill me if it wasn't.
I think 10-15 is a good number for me, I don't have a very competitive GPA, so I need to make up for it in DAT/EC.

I don't know how I can improve my personal statement. 😕

I completely understand your situation. I feel like I am in the same boat. I have a decent GPA and okay DAT score. I'll just apply super early and volunteer/shadow a ton this semester.

Sounds like a good plan.
Check out the Ben Massell clinic, I think you'll be able to log some good hours there if your class schedule isn't too packed.

It's actually near GT campus... I think it's about 10-15min drive, but you can always bike or find someone that's going. You have to attend an orientation, and a drug screening to volunteer. I know, it's ridiculous. BUT, I'll definitely try to go whenever I can.
