I took the MCAT last summer twice and received the highest score of 29 overall. My GPA was 3.49 and I applied to a variety of DO schools but got rejected by all of them. I have good extracurricular involvement so I figured it had to do with my GPA or scores. I've been accepted into a one year masters program that starts mid july right before the mcat dates in July. This masters program should help with my gpa. However, I'm still not sure whether I should retake the mcat. I would have two months to prepare at this point prior to starting my masters classes and it would be my third time. Should I strive to take it in July or just stick with my 29 and hope that my masters scores will help? I really need advice on this

Thanks!

Which schools did you apply to? When did you apply? Your GPA and MCAT seem competitive enough for DO schools, so it could have been something else that hindered your application. I don't think you need to take it again.

It would also help to know:
1. what kind of EC's are we considering 'good'?
2. what is your science GPA?
3. what was your first MCAT score?
4. how did you MCAT scores break? (what were their subsections?)

The stats you provided are competitive for DO schools -- the problem likely lies in these or the above posters' questions.

Very vague OP and surprising given the stats, so I did a quick search:

OP is a Canadian citizen (at least was back in Sept 14')
Took the MCAT BTB and went 29 --> 27

Others may be able to weigh in given that info.

Your biggest strikes are your Canadian status and that downward trend in your MCAT scores.

1. I have been a peer advisor, president of a club for two years, held other leadership positions in two other clubs, gone on a medical mission trip over the summer.
2. 3.0 is my science gpa
3/4. My first mcat score was 29--> verbal: 12 physical: 8 bio: 9
My second was 27 because my parents pressured me to take it two weeks after I received my first scores. Dumbest thing ever.

And yes I am a canadian citizen. I applied to PCOM (where I received an interview and am still on hold for. but I'm not too hopeful about it since getting an acceptance at this point is low), LMU-DCOM, Nova, and other MD schools that basically accepted people with my status since I am in the process of getting a green card but I've been attending school in the states for 13 years.

Yeah that's what I've been told. I wish I could take back that second score, but too bad. So, I need to know how to fix it and too do better to overcome the strike of being a Canadian citizen because there is nothing I can do about that.

So you only applied to three DO schools? That's a problem. And what MD schools accepted people with your status? I don't know of any that would be likely to accept students with a 3.5cGPA,3.0sGPA,29MCAT.
