Hello.

I am first year canadian student planning to attend US M.D or D.O med school. I have completed my first semester where I ended up taking almost all prereqs with full course load ( 5 courses per term). I was an immature student and fooled around during my first sem and got low grades. Now I look back and find that those grades really matter. So, Which courses should I retake? I know I can get atleast B+ to A in them if I retake them. If my university does not allow me to repeat classes and I perform well in advance courses, are my chances still pretty much destroyed? Considering if they calculate prereq GPA for screening process and seeing how there are not many prereqs that are required (around 8-9 courses).

Here are my Grades:
(All these courses are prereqs)

General Biology I B-
General Chemistry C
Intro stat C
Calculus I D

So which courses are important for me to retake? Do all D.O schools replace course with higher grade? Thank you.

1) The only one you must retake is the D in Calc. If you did not understand the course content sufficiently to excel in the second course of the series, then you should retake Gen Chem. Getting an A in Bio II will redeem the lowish Bio grade, and so will future As in upper-level Bio. You may retake the others if you just want to prove you have turned around your academics. Or you can consider taking the second course in the Statistics series.

2) Retake them at another school. Submit the separate transcript when you apply to med schools (it doesn't matter if school #1 accepts it, as AACOMAS and AMCAS will regardless). Just be sure the retake has the same course credits or greater to invoke the DO grade forgiveness..

3) All but the one in Texas.
