how do optometry schools treat classes that were retaken? i.e. i rettok calc and phys I after getting C's in them during my freshman year and my school's policy is replacing the old grade with the new one regardless. How will optometry schools treat this or does it vary from school to school?

If your college actually replaces the old grade, deletes it fom the record and there is no evidence that you took the course before, then you needn't report it. If they simply left evidence that you took the course earlier and either covered up the old grade in some way or changed it to "withdrew" then you must report the first taking and enter whatever the transcript shows.

.

It varies from school to school. Some O.D. schools require you to prepare a form showing all classes you took and grades from semester to semester. They then compare those with your transcripts, so be sure it is correct or it can easily delay your application. Other schools just ask for your transcripts and have you report the GPA on the application. It would be nice if optometry schools would start a system like AMCAS for medical schools in which one application fulfills all the school's (or most of them anyway) requirements for applications. Unfortunately, each optometry school has their own form and their own deadlines and format. Some are short and easy (SUNY) and some are ridiculously long (Berkeley). The application fees range from $30 upwards of $75.

i believe the marks are averaged... but in my opinion, you'd be better off not retaking and just doing good in another course

I remember on ICO application they said you had to report both grades, but only had to add the last grade into the GPA calculation.
