How bad does it look if you have to retake a class? My Ochem lab is brutal, it doesn't help that my ta hates me.

Whats so hard about organic chem?

It's not the ideal situation of course, but many have overcome that issue by compensating with good results in your other classes and credentials.

I had to retake an accounting class and I'm doing well right now.😉 You just have to convey through every medium possible (PS, interview, stats) that the bad grade does not reflect you. If it does........you need to solve your issues.🙂

I think the better question is should you retake it. How are the rest of your grades? Are you understanding the material?
There's different opinions on it. Sometimes it's better to just take a higher level course and do well, instead of repeating it (there is more of an assumption that you can get an A now since you're going through it a second time).

Either way, make sure you understand the basics of orgo, it's important for your PCATs and for pharm school!!

Have you gotten help from your professor?
I remember that I had a really bad TA for orgo1, so I went and sat for the discussion sessions of a different TA. It most def makes a difference!

Good luck! 🙂

It depends on what grade you received in your ochem lab. Did you fail it or did you just get a C. I don't think it matters if you retake it or not. Some school don't like students who retake classes because they want you to do take upper division courses. However, some schools take the higher grade and encourage it. I think labs won't affect your GPA by that much. If I were you, I wouldn't retake it unless I failed.

OP - what grade did you get - or will you be getting for Org Lab? If it is a passing grade, and the rest of your GPA is good - I would say dont worry about it. It is one or two credits - in the grand scheme of your entire transcript - and its a lab.

If you didn't fail - move on to bigger and better classes (Org Lab blows)

If you did fail - I would retake it - but, as another poster has already posted - you need to ascertain what happened with the lab. Org lab, while very boring, should not be stressing your academic muscles. It requires organization and effort (and a decent TA never hurts) - if this class was causing you headaches - just wait until you get into Drug metabolism with clinical cor. You have more diverse, intricate information thrown at you, and it comes way faster. Do some soul searching - and if you decide to stay the course (which I always feel is the best course) - do so with conviction.

I didn't mean that the information was hard, O chem isn't that bad. I actually like it alot more than General Chem. I haven't finished the class yet, but a couple of my experiments didn't work, and thats really going to hurt my grade. I like to think of the future, and be prepared for anything.
