Question: Is it wise to retake a course at a cc because the original school (a university) offers the course next year. How do all these things get calculated in the application? Do we just submit the # of units and the grade and calculate what we submit (I understand that if I retake a course, I have to submit both grades)? Or do we submit the overall GPAs from both schools and calculate the average? I have never seen an actual AMCAS application, so I don't know how it really works.

Sorry if the question is too convoluted.
And thanks in advance for answering my question.

Some folks will disagree, but most are of the opinion that unless you failed the class, don't retake it. Take a higher level class and ace it to show you get it. Certainly don't retake it at a CC, because then it will just look like you couldn't hack it, so had to take it somewhere easier.

On amcas, you enter in ALL your classes and grades, and it averages your gpa for you.

It really does depend though on the course and the grade. What were they?

It was Genetics, I got a big fat D. grrr. I don't think I can continue with that kind of grade, right?

If your school has advanced genetics, take it and get an A. You may need to get the prof's permission, but if you can convince him/her that you are motivated, it shouldn't be a problem.

Before doing that, though, you need to figure out why you got that D.
