Hi all,
I've taken general chemistry about 10 years ago. Currently I am doing my postbac for ochem and biology and many others to come. Do I really need to retake general chemistry since its been a long time ago? Some schools that I've ask said I don't need to and some said its case by case when they review the application. I just wanted to know the general concensus in here. Thanks!

If you don't need to retake it to fully UNDERSTAND the material for the PCAT then I don't see any need to retake (unless required by the your prospective pschool).

However, if you find the material shady after 10 years then you might just hit it up at a community college to refresh.

There is no shining "right" answer to this question.

Probably the best thing you can do is get in touch with the student recruiter for the schools you intend on applying to because every school is a little different.

If your schools said it is a case by case basis, then I think you need a reasonable PCAT score in the chemistry section. If that score turns out low, the schools that indicated you might have to take it will probably make you retake it. So how comfortable are you going to be on the PCAT without redoing that class? If you think you are going to do great, then just skip it and you'll probably be fine.
