Hi everyone!

I'm a current senior, who will be applying next cycle. I am trying to figure out if it is a good idea for me to retake my Organic 1 class. I received a C-, due to being very sick for over a month and missing a bunch of class. I did better in Organic 2 (B-), and all other chemistry classes I've taken have been much improved (I'm a chemistry major).

I am considering either a). retaking the course this spring at my home university or b). retaking the course over the summer (after I graduate) at a local college. Which is the best option? Has anyone else had experience doing one or the other and how did it turn out?

Thanks for your help!

I guess this depends on how much schools will scrutinize the one C- in Ochem 1. You are showing improvement overall in Chemistry courses, so I am not sure a retake is necessary. In other words, taking a recommended upper level biology class of equivalent hours will do as much for your science GPA, and it might help you more down the line. The only D school that does grade replacement that I know of is UMKC. On the other hand, if that C- just irks you and you think you can get an A, go for it. In any case, rock the Chem section on your DAT.

Obviously, the higher your GPA, the better, as well.

If you scored well on the O chem section on the DAT I'd say don't worry about it. Making an A in a retake class won't change your GPA significantly at all if you are a senior. I did terrible in my freshman bio classes and genetics and made a 24 on the bio portion of the DAT. Nobody has asked me about my poor bio scores early on yet...

Retake! A grade of C- is not acceptable. Sign up for chad videos and get an A next round!

Check with schools you want to apply, the majority will tell you to retake, it is a prerequisitive
