I failed a semester of classes at the first college I attended due to personal, not academic reasons. Without those classes, my GPA is 3.7xxx. Should I try to retake these classes at the university I'm now attending or just focus on getting grades in other classes? They were all non-science classes and I don't know if the university would even have equivalent classes.

I'm having trouble figuring out what you mean by "Without those classes, my GPA is 3.7xxx." Your AMCAS GPA will, of course, include those courses.

That said, you may wish to enquire whether there are equivalent courses at your new college. The Registrar's office ought to be able to help you figure out what they are. Taking such courses would at least help mitigate the effects of the failing grades. Otherwise, I'd concentrate on nailing the pre-reqs and finishing strong at your present school.
