I am sure that there have been other threads on the this particular topic but i was wondering if you guys could possibly help me make a decision. I am currently a senior, will be graduating in December, just took my MCAT's on September 11 and i plan to apply to DO schools. I heard from someone that if i were to retake the classes that i got a C or B in and if i am applying to DO school the new grade actually replaces the previous grade instead of averaging the two grades. Is this true? if this is true is it worth it to push my graduation back and retake the classes i got C's in? My sGPA is currently at 3.1 and if i were to push my graduation back i would be graduating in may 2011 instead of december 2010.

Thanks for your time and help

Hey..
Some schools have this thing called "grade forgiveness" and I dont know if students at their schools know about it lol.. But check to see if your school does have that.. If i'm not mistaken you can replace a grade "C" or lower with the grade you get when you take it a second time... One of the classes then changes to audit on your transcript... I've never done this or have heard anyone done this, but I read about it somewhere... You should double check before you do anything though...

Another thing, I don't know if graduating in Dec will help.. (That is what I was going to do, but decided against it)... Is there a reason you would like to graduate early? Once, you graduate you have to start paying your loans back (they start adding interest)... I decided to graduate in May2011, take a reduced course load in the spring, beef up ECs while still "technically" in school and work 🙂... [You might already have a great job lined up or what not, in that case... umm.. I dont know lol] 🙂

Yes you can retake courses. I wouldn't recommend retaking Bs though. If you have anything C- or below, retake it for sure. If your 3.1 is because you were a B student it will do little to help you by retaking and you may be better of taking upper div science courses for a quarter and getting As. It depends on your situation. Personally, I'd stick around an extra quarter/semester and retake C-'s or very high unit Cs and get your GPA up to 3.2 or 3.3. You will be in much better standing.
