Hey Guys,
I know these questions have been asked before, but here is my situation. I have a BA in Anthropology and I have taken some of the pre-med courses. I recieved a D+ in an Anthro class in my last semester due to some personal issues. It is only one class, but I know I could have done better. My job allows for tuitition remission but it is with a different university from where I recieved my degree. If I retake the class at a different school, how will my GPA be calculated? I'm also thinking about re-taking O. Chem and adding a some more upper level science classes.

So AMCAS will have transcripts from 2 different schools. Lets say someone has a D in O.Chem and then they take the class again and get an A. Clearly they will only recieve credit for one course. Most universities will replace the D with the A, but I believe AMCAS will average the two grades to make a C? Is the same true if the two classes are from 2 different schools?

What about the total GPA? If you take courses at a another university after your 1st degree, does AMCAS show 2 different GPA's? Or do they just add the credits and points from your post-bac classes to your orginal GPA to create a new GPA? Does it make any difference if the classes are in a 2nd degree program, post-bac certificate or just random non-matriculated?

Finally, do you know if there is any difference between the way allopathic and osteopathic application services calculate the GPA's?

Sorry for the lenghty post...........

MD schools calculate retakes as separate classes, while DO schools replace retaken classes with the higher score. Your classes taken after your first BA are calculated in your post-bacc gpa and consequently your total undergrad gpa. it makes no difference when or how u took the classes.
