Hey, question for ya

Due to screwing up earlier on in college, I decided to retake the first 3 early bio courses that I didn't do to hot in (ie the first 3 bio courses taken at all--each semester of freshman bio, and the bio I took first semester sophomore year). I'm retaking them now in my senior year, especially since I only need to take 2 classes each semester to graduate due to having lab credits here and there from being a science major and taking a few summer courses at my school.

I've done very well since early on, with mostly A's and A-, and few B+'s. I'll be graduating BS in Microbiology and these better grades came in the upper level 200 and 400 (graduate level) courses.

The reason why I retook them is because they gave a really big boost to my science GPA. With leaving the grades I got earlier (a C- and 2 C+'s) in, I would have had a science GPA of 3.37, overall of 3.51 and non-science of 3.80. With averaging the 2 grades for each course each time (I got A's in 2 of the retakes already and will get an A in this one), my science GPA is going to go to 3.50, overall to 3.60, and non-science of 3.80.

My question is have any of you done the same thing and had retaking of courses come up in an interview? or been a negative thing in an interview? From your experience, will my GPA be looked at as a 3.50 or as a 3.50 with an asterisk next to it, and be looked at in reality as a lower GPA?

you took it over. you did better. thats good. they might say...you didnt do so hot but you proved you can bounce back and do well. good job.

for the most part i dont think it would be a negative. you got the interview invite so thats already good news.

You wont have an asterisk b/c youll have to enter your original grade in AMCAS and it'll average out, so you'll get a lower GPA than if they had been erased. Your GPA will be somewhere in between your original GPA pre-retake and your post-retake GPA.

Retakes dropped my AMCAS GPA by .2!!!

Anyhow, it never came up. Never once did an individual course come up either. I suppose the higher up you go in rankings the more picky they may be, but that hasn't been the case for me for interviews at schools ranked in the 20's.

the grades I gave in the initial post were already with the 2 grades averaged together

didn't get an interview, since I haven't applied yet, not applying for a couple years

I meant the question more as a general one

I would think this would not be something I wouldn't get an interview for...that is, hopefully not

but I was thinking it could come into play when the school has to pick between different people after the interviews
