Hey all,

I'm doing well in my other science courses right now but I've been really struggling in my Chem 2 course lately. It's not the concept of the material, it's more working the problems out. My professor doesn't give a whole lot of opportunity to show us how to do the problems we're going to be tested on, he'd rather teach concept. I think best case scenario I could end up with a B, but it'll more likely be a BC or C. Is it a terrible idea to retake courses for when I apply to med school or should I stick it out and let the C stay on my transcript?

Let me reemphasize that I don't struggle with the concepts, but rather all of the calculations and such that we're never taught. I feel that if I were to retake it with a different instructor I could do just fine.

One C won't kill you, neither will one W. If you move on without fully understanding the material, it might come back to bite you on MCAT or higher level classes.

If you get a B-, no point of retaking. A C will tank your GPA. I recommend a W if you end up with a C.

Thanks much! I never know whether a B- will get the job done or not, I do well in all of my other classes and I understand that I should be getting A's or AB's, but I think I'm past that point.

Appreciate it. I just hope the MCAT doesn't ask me anything about equilibrium constants.

A C will not tank a GPA... do you know how little that changes it once you get 120+ credit hours (but yes you should still retake something under a B-, especially a pre-req)

Well if you're a non-trad that's taking the necessary pre-reqs, a C can tank your science gpa

True, if theyonly have 32 hours of sGPA then yeah it would not be great.... If they are a science major you assume they have over 60+ hours so not as much impact

Boy have I got some bad news for you....
Dang haha, like I said. I understand all of the concepts just fine, it's just that what we're being tested on vs what we actually learn are totally different things.
