Hello,
I know there have been a couple posts like this in the past but I was seeking a response tailored to my situation. I only have 2 more classes until I can graduate from my undergraduate institution, so I can graduate in December if I want to. I am currently applying to DO schools now and am scheduled to take my MCAT August 1st. I have been scoring in the mid-20s on my practice exams. My AACOMAS application hasn't been verified yet, but my cGPA is somewhere around a 3.5 and my sGPA is somewhere around a 3.3/3.4.
Do you guys think it would be beneficial to start my masters degree at my undergraduate institution next spring (I know I can get into the problem as I have all the requirements) or should I spend that semester retaking courses I did poorly in? I am planning ahead in case I need to reapply next application cycle.
I was originally at a different institution and I did poorly in my academics, so I transferred to the one I am at now. Here, I have done much better grade-wise and have a bunch of EC (I'll attach them at the end of the post). The only thing is that in these last two semesters, I received a C each semester (1 in science and 1 in non-science class). I know I can do a lot better in these classes and receive A's to boost my sGPA/cGPA up, but I don't know if that would hold more weight over doing well in classes for a master's program. I can also retake a couple classes to repeat for the classes that I did poorly in at my original university. What do you guys think?
My EC's are:
-President of a pre-med club for over a year
- ~75 hours worth of shadowing a DO
- ~75 hours of research with a professor at my school
- ~700 hours worth of volunteering as an EMT
- ~800 hours as a performer/Teaching ASsistant for the Dance program at my original institution
- have worked as a Dental Assistant for the past 4 years
- have worked as a Security Officer/EMT at a retirement home for the past year
- ~1040 hours as philantrophic chair in a fraternity at my original institution
- ~60 hours as a judicial boards member for Interfraternal council at my original institution
- ~75 hours as a member of two biology/premedical clubs at my current institution (they work in collaboration with the club that I am president of)
- I have also received numerous awards/scholarships at my current university
Sorry for the long post!
