I got an 17AA first time and applied pretty early enough (all supplementals complete first week of September) that its pretty obvious that my DAT score is holding me back.

my concern is even if I do improve, would sending my score in early November be too late to be considered any interviews or am I better off preparing for next yr.

You've already applied--what harm can there be in sending the retake scores in early November at this point? If you do well on the retake it can only help you this cycle, and if it doesn't help you this cycle then your DAT will still be done ahead of time so you can have everything set to go at the beginning of June for that cycle.

I think the real question is how long you think it will take you to prepare for the re-take.

I really dont know I need to study to do well. I studied a good 3 months for the first time and for most other ppl that would warrant a 20+. I am planning to retake on Nov. 1st which gives me about 3 weeks but I will focus on sciences since I was struggling with those more so than the reading and math.

is retaking on November 1st considered pretty late?

When did you take the exam? 90 days need to pass before one can retake the DAT. What have you been doing in August, September, and October?

I will repeat: I don't think you should worry about late/not late at this point in time; you need to worry about doing well on the exam. Whether that takes 3 weeks or 3 months is irrelevant.

You've already used up 1 shot out of 3 at the DAT and the score is not what you were hoping for. Don't waste your second attempt if you're not ready.

Some schools average your DAT attempts, so I really would not attempt to retake before I fixed all of my problem areas.

Did you notify the schools (whether through AADSAS or by email) that you were going to retake? If you did, they probably are holding your application until your new scores are sent in. If that's the case, then it is very late to take the DAT this cycle. A lot of schools have deadlines for when the DAT should be taken, and off the top of my head, I'm thinking November is a popular deadline month.

I'm not sure about the case if you are retaking your test without having notified the schools. I have a hunch that they won't accept your new DAT scores past the deadline. I am totally not sure of that though. You would have to contact the school to make sure.

this late in the game i suspect you'd need to break a 20.. but honestly i don't think 3 weeks is enough time to go from a 17 to 20. take your time and take the exam when you are ready... apply next cycle. plenty of people reapply.
