I need to retake the gen chem sequence and orgo 1 (orgo only because of a silly misunderstanding on my part, otherwise I would have had a B).

I was planning on retaking one of them over the summer. The thing is I'm not sure which one. Gen chem at my school is the weed-out class and therefore extremely difficult. I don't want to retake it and do poorly again. On the other hand, the class will be way smaller so the professor should be able to give me/us more individualized attention. I also won't have any other classes to worry about.

I've obviously taken orgo more recently so I also think it would be smarter to retake that first. However, I'm not sure. Orgo I understand better than gen chem so I don't think it would really matter.

So what would you guys recommend I do: retake the gen chem sequence 1st or retake orgo 1st?

Edit: For what its worth, I have a low GPA (<3.0) so I don't plan on taking my DAT for a couple more years. However, I've been doing better this semester, with 3 A's, 1 C, and 1 C+/B- (which will increase) so I've started to change my ways.

What did you get in gen Chem and orgo? Sounds like you got a C in orgo from what you're saying. If you got a couple of of Cs (not C-)I wouldn't retake those classes imo, others might think otherwise. Just take a couple of semesters of upper level bio classes and ace them. Also, don't think that a low gpa will translate into a low DAT. Plenty of people have low gpas but stellar DAT scores. There is no correlation, just study right.

I got a D in both the gen chems ( I couldn't drop due to holds on my record) and in orgo I got a D+.

I failed GC1, retook it in the summer, got an A. Attempted GC 2 in the summer and dropped it(though I did have some distractions going on).

Fast paced in the summer, not a game. Positive thing is that its your only focus. But you need to be on your game. The professor would be lecturing and I was already doing practice problems while he was teaching. It was review to an extent, but I had to be ahead and keep up. If you're up for it, take it and get a B+ or higher, but if you mess up again, you're done unless you do a post back.

Given your grades, I'd take it during a normal semester. You say things are getting better for you, thats good, so don't rush it.

That's what I'm worried about. It would run from May 23-June 30, lecture everyday for 2 hours.

So should I only take orgo during the summer? I want to graduate on time.

This should be about graduating with a decent GPA, avoiding a possible post back, than graduating on time.

I know I need to retake both, I was wondering in which order would be the best way to go about it (as in should I retake the gen chem sequence 1st or orgo 1st)

I'd go with gen chem first, then orgo. The former lays down some foundation for learning the latter.

If time isn't an issue (i.e. you don't plan on applying within the next 2 years) then I'd just wait until the fall and use your summer to relax or do more productive things.

I was planning on applying in 2018 or 19, depending on how high I can get my GPA up. I might need to do some post-bacc work or a SMP.
