Hey guys, I have a pretty specific question. Freshman year was bad, ended up with a sub 3.0 GPA and lost my scholarship. In the following years, I've earned a 3.8, 3.9, and 4.0 respectively, so things have turned around. During freshmen year, I took a 3 credit statistics class and received a C-. I know this class is a requirement for a lot of med schools so I'm looking to retake it. The problem is, the specific statistics class I took (Statistics w/ Pharmacy Applications) isn't offered during the spring. My options are a 4 credit Bio-Statistics class, and a 3 credit Intro To Probability & Statistics class.

Which class seems like a better pick? The Intro to Prob & Stats looks extremely easy, but I'm confident in my ability to get A's in either one. Does it matter which I choose?

As I type this I realize that it probably doesn't matter, but I'd appreciate any input or opinions.

Thanks.

It really depends on your strengths. Intro to probability and stats will be about half probability and half stats. Biostats will be all stats with some application. Personally I was terrible at probability but killed stats. As a result, I did much better in biostats than in my probability and stats course.

I'd do biostats, it's closer to the med school curriculum than probability & statistics, and as you say neither should be terribly difficult. That being said it doesn't really matter.

The mathematics requirements are relatively new at many institutions so their is significant variation in regards to the number of credit hours, lowest possible grade, and type of course that can fulfill them. Some schools specifically want bio-statistics so I'd recommend taking that. Make sure to review the course requirements for schools you will be applying to before signing up to take the course.

Appreciate the replies. It was brought to my attention that there is also a course titles "Introduction to Statistics" offered next spring. Still, I think I will stick with bio-statistics as I have looked through the MSAR and noticed that some schools ask for bio-stats specifically. I'm casting a wide net next cycle so I think its better to take bio-stats so I'm not excluding any schools from my list.
