Hello SDN Community,
My name is Harrison Sciulli, and I am a current first year surgical retina fellow with Retina Associates of Cleveland (from 2023-2025) and also the first fellow for this program. I am posting this to inform prospective surgical retina fellowship applicants on this exciting fellowship and answer questions. The fellowship will be accepting applications from prospective applicants for the 2025-2027 match cycle this summer 2024 through the SF match.
This is a 2 year surgical retina fellowship located in Cleveland, Ohio with the dominant private practice group in town, Retina Associates of Cleveland. My experience thus far has been outstanding.
The surgical experience has far exceeded my expectations, and I currently have completed 430+ pars plana vitrectomies as the primary surgeon as of 6/4/24 (limited or no touch from the attending surgeon). Additionally, I have completed 30 scleral buckling procedures as primary surgeon (limited or no touch from the attending surgeon, this number includes primary buckles as well as buckles + PPV). I have gained experience with complicated lens procedures and am comfortable with sutured IOLs, ACIOLs, and Yamane techniques. I hope to finish fellowship with at least 800+ PPV and 60+ scleral buckles. All surgeries are based in a practice-affiliated ambulatory surgery center (ASC) with 2 retina-only ORs. I typically operate 3-4 days a week and spend the clinic days rotating through attendings’ clinics.
The group is not affiliated with a hospital or health system, so all call is for the practice only. The fellow is expected to take call one week a month and operate on Sundays while on call. Saturday clinics are not required.
Please let me know if you have any questions, feel free to DM me or ask here, and we look forward to seeing your applications this summer!
