I got a C in my gen chem 1 course so I decided to retake it, only it looks like Im getting a C if not a D this time around. Should I try to retake it? I really think I could succeed better a third time around (the first time I had a job and this time my parents got a divorce), but Im wondering how bad it would look on the transcript to have this class a third time. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

TBH. You should not have retaken it after the C. Now, the expectation during 2nd time is an A. It's not going to be looked upon positively that you will end up with another C or worse a D. I suggest you move on and don't retake a 3rd time regardless of whatever grade you end up with...

Not sure about a third retake but it certainly will not look good, especially considering that it is an introductory science course. Use this as a learning experience. Work your ass off to get that A the first time and retake a course only if you are positive you can make an A the second time.

And just as a side tip, take some accountability in life. You can't keep blaming things on external circumstances, there will always be plenty of those.

Having a job is not an excuse for getting a C in a freshman science course. Do not retake it again.

I'm very sorry to read about your parents' split. Major family tragedies can knock you flat on your butt. My heart goes out to you.

I echo what others are saying here: don't retake the course again. Move on and crush gen chem 2. In the future, don't retake anything unless you get D/F. If you get a C in something and want to have a second go to help you master the material for the MCAT, audit the course the second time around.

So retaking this course was a faux pas, as was failing to get an A the second time around. But what's done is done. Don't lose any sleep over this. Learn the lesson and move forward.
