Regarding using review books during first 2 years: when is it best to read them? Before you receive the class material (introduction), immediately after the lecture, or right before the exam as a final review? How do you use them?

i like to read step up and FA at the beginning of every module. this gives me a good overview of the basic core material that i will be getting in class, doesn't take long, and is a nice way to get familiar with the topic. it also gives me some nice mnemonics way ahead of time.

i will also read BRS path/NMS med/BRS pharm along with whatever we cover but usually after what we go over in class. The other thing I do is listen to Goljan over and over until the path exams, helps tremendously (our modules are about a month so by the time the exam comes along I've heard Goljan a couple times).

i do all the questions in BRS, NMS and Robbins Review of path right before those exams along with any back exams we may have access to. This has been very effective for me and I feel like it's killing 2 birds with one stone (studying for school and boards at the same time).

best of luck, looking forward to hearing others' ideas.

I follow a very similar plan to this and it has been working extremely well for my class tests. It also makes me feel confident that I will be very well prepared for the boards. These sources really help to drive home the high yield/important info while you are learning it in a much more detailed manner in class.
