I'd like to hear some opinions on the commercial review courses for step 1. I've found a number of them listed in FA but they are not graded like the written material is, and I don't really believe the "XYZ course I took is the only reason I passed my step with flying colours!" stories from their websites.

So, if any of you good people out there have some experience with these courses, please gimme some advice.

Thanks!

I can't speak through experience yet but I signed up for the doctorsintraining.com (formerly What You Need to Know) online review.

I picked them b/c I was looking for more of a guided study approach as opposed to a "ram med school down your throat in 6 weeks" approach.

I also didn't want to go anywhere for the course, this is an online video review that I can watch multiple times w/in the 30 day window.

This fit my study style so that's what I picked.

If you actually want a comprehensive review of all med school subjects, then find out who Goljan is teaching (I've heard he teaches for Falcon or Kaplan) for and go there.

Goljan teaches for falcon. their dates are listed on the falcon review website. 🙂

Which approach would best suit an IMG in your opinion? Videos/guided home studying or the actual live courses and the possibility of interaction with professors?

I am afraid that the courses in the US would be more suited for American students? Or is this a wrong perception?

The thing is, out of fear on missing out on any subject I've probably overdone it with review books. I could use some guidance (other than FA, although it is an excellent book!) so I'm thinking of using one of the study courses.

I think it depend on your learning style. If you need to have live lectures go to a course. Otherwise, the video/web prep will do fine as well.

I know a lot of IMG thatgo to falcon and PASS.

the thing is class is 8am-4pm and most people are pooped out by that time. Courses are good for learning the basic info, but if you have a solid foundation hit the qbanks and see where you stand.:luck:

Seems to me like the videos are the most realistic option in my case (doing my internship year now, so a month away would be frowned upon by the senior docs). I`m glad Depakote mentioned the doctorsintraining web course, I googled it and looked for feedback on SDN, looks good 👍
