Hey,

I was just notified by Mayo that a letter of recommendation of mine was not signed by the author. I'm not sure why other schools had been fine with this (I'm guessing either they don't mind or they've automatically rejected it). I had the letter writer update his letter via Interfolio. My question is, is it possible to replace his current letter on AMCAS so that all schools will automatically get an updated version? Or, do I need to create a new entry for it...and notify each school individually (even if they hadn't brought it up)?

Mayo also has problems with letterheads for some of the letters. Do different schools just have different criteria in terms of these letters? I'm worried that many of my letters are automatically brushed off by schools without my knowledge because of this.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wish I could help you...it really does stink to have no clue whether your letter writers are indeed using proper letterheads (which, if they don't, looks crappy on your part)...is your letter a committee letter? Your pre-med advisor should be able to tell you what the letters looked like at least...idk why that one letter has no signature; hopefully a re-send will fix it...? 😕

My school doesn't have a pre-med advisor or committee, so they are all individual letters. And yes, it does suck. I should have made it clear, but it's my first time applying and I assumed Interfolio would specify these instructions for the writers (I mean, come on, how can a letter be valid without a signature?).

Interfolio does not specify these instructions to the letter writers, but they do notify you on the document's page that it is not signed (though in my case it was very late). I have been through this experience and it's frustrating but not the end of the world. I won't repeat my posts from the thread below, but reading the responses in it might be useful:

Had the exact same problem earlier this cycle, had my author upload a signed letter and it was automatically sent out to all the school within 7 days.
