rewarding yourself

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A medical school acceptance lol.

Don't you still get a dollar for every A on your report card? Or at least a discount at dairy queen?

true. that acceptance letter is golden.

i just feel that after successfully navigating the MCATs we all deserve to reward ourselves.

I threw myself a party after taking the mcats and finishing orgo II! i was also leaving the city i'd lived in for 5 years a week after mcats so for my guests it was a goodbye... but for me it was a "wooo finally!!!!!!"

I don't think we should enjoy life by "rewarding" ourselves with materials or intoxication. Why not try to see the good things in life everyday? Can't you see that just because you have food, shelter, and air to breathe, you are rewarded every moment of every day? 😛

and then we can all go hug trees and sing kumbaya

Thanks Ghandi but I'm still going to reward myself with a smooth shot of Gentlemens Jack.

Also I don't think you should refer to "us" as "we". Because we are nothing alike.

Bring on the moral police, because I'm one post and shot past not caring.

I usually go for food of some sort. I'm always trying to eat healthy, so an accomplishment is a good excuse to gorge myself on whatever. Pavlov would be proud...

As far as something personal for myself - good sushi.

Yeah...same here.

After the MCAT was over, I was sober for approximately 15 minutes (a bunch of friends met me immediately afterward to take me out for margaritas, etc). And...that's pretty much been the story for med school acceptances, etc. Some drunkeness and lots of silly dancing.

I spent the last 3 weeks of the month-long wait for my MCAT score backpacking and ponytrekking in Iceland. Much better than sitting at home obsessively checking. 😀

i buy myself cupcakes 🙂. i'll find all sorts of excuses to get myself cupcakes, though... wow, i did laundry when i said i would. time for some cupcakes!

I understand what you mean but you're ruining the thread!!! You're making us feel guilty for our fun. 🙁

I went straight from the MCAT testing center to the mall down the street even though I looked like crap. Just walked in and took a deep breath...it felt like coming home haha.

Other rewards have included manicures, shopping, happy hour, and not skipping social activities with my friends.

I get my hair done, go shopping, buy jewelry every now and again, oh and buy cars or car parts <3 <3 <3. I just bought a new fourwheeler (predator)... I think it was less of a reward and more of a way to keep me sane between work, school, and trying to fit in ECs. Yay for fun time!

i wish i had that kind of money! here i was thinking i was splurging with some cupcakes..

I would go out for fondue at the "Melting Pot." Or buy books at Amazon. Or sleep. 🙂

LOL. I used to buy very nice, semi-pricey cars (the one in my avatar) when I wasn't putting myself through school. Now I have my rx-8, which is no fun, and am looking for another muscle car to work on. I've had a 1985 mustang gt, 2 x 2001 mustang gt, 2003 mustang gt, 2004 mustang mach 1, 2004 cobra that I dumped A LOT of $ into, 2004 sti, and 2008 corvette. The last three I had at the same time for a while. I had the cobra the longest. A car habit is probably worse than a drug habit jk 😉. It's pricey, but fun. I am looking for another cobra because my mazda is my commuter car. I gave up my three babies (cobra, vette, sti) to quit my job and just go to school. Well, I went back into management and so I wish I would have kept them. I actually don't like the type of work I do, but it allows me extra spending money and fills my "apply to med school" fund.

And no my parents don't give me money. I'm pretty sure if I asked, my mum would laugh at me.

very true. but at least a car habit is legal! too bad being a doctor probably won't give you the car buying lifestyle you're used to .

haha! I'm going through withdrawals.... I just want one cobra & I'd be good lol. I miss my termieeee!!! The worst part was when I got rid of my cobra, the next owner trashed it! grrrrrrrr!

Alright, I'm done being a whiner now lol.

You're complaining about not having more nice cars?

I have a 15 year old volvo and I'm perfectly content...

I was looking at a miata, cheap, small, fast. but realized i could better spend that dough on way more things.

just don't know what hahahaha

When I want to reward myself I buy a new pair of Doc Martens 🙂

Don't know how any of you can stomach tequila...taste alone is revolting.

To reward myself...

excess cheap 40 oz
excess call of duty
junk food
skateboarding
not ditching my friends to study
not going to the gym
not studying anything else all day
maybe shake junt
👍

I honestly might buy a nice tv for my apartment... Gotta have some downtime in med school

I usually use success as an excuse to shop for things and spend way more money that i should.
I got an A in Physics? Time for a new purse, shoes and a plane ticket to FL. haha

After the MCAT I had to drive an hour and a half home but before i left I went to the nearest Cinnabon and ODed on calories and sugar. It was fantastic

Go target shooting with a couple of big caliber rifles (.308, 30-06) at 600-800 yards.

After the MCAT I'm planning on going directly to the ghetto and buying crack rocks. Lots and lots of crack rocks.

I sit down on porcelain for about 20-30 minutes, close my eyes, and enjoy.
