Hey y'all,

Everyone should live in the Woodlands if they can! You won't have to worry about what kind of car you drive, etc..2 min walk from campus

Also, Evanston is painfully far. Taking the train from Evanston is not ideal at all. Is there any way you can live closer?

Being that close to campus is definitely a plus, but I didn't feel all that comfortable with the actual apartments themselves. Plus they only had a 2-bedroom (Phase 1) available (that was cheapest to a 1 bedroom) that I couldn't even see since it was still occupied or needed to be cleaned. I found a slightly cheaper 1 bedroom apartment at Deer Valley that I felt pretty comfortable with even though it's a 5-10 minute drive to campus. They also let you sign a 10 month lease which I thought was another big plus.

Hey Everyone
My cousin and I just got into the AP program and we were able to get a 2 bedroom place at woodlands. Its fairly large, we are males (east indian ) looking for possibly a 3rd roommate to share, non smoker if possible and an AP student.THe rooms are fairly big, PM me if interested.

After a huge debacle with the seller of the condo in Gurnee, I was offered a one bedroom place in the RFU housing and took it. I didn't even consider it an option. Any reviews of the housing situation there? and other APers living in it?

Hi kflinstone,

I shipped mine with A1auto transport - DO NOT use them!!!
The car got there in 10 days (the only positive experiense)- but it was there before schedule (before I was there) - they charge storage fees. I shipped from North Cali/Bay Area and paid $825 - terminal to terminal (not including storage fees - $90/day). The car is scratched all over the place (need to talk to them this Mon, but was worned by the terminal people that it would be ugly). Oh, and you can put nothing in the car (they do mean nothing).

I checked FedEx their quote was $875, but couldn;t arrange for pick up for 2-4 wks.

I think you are short of time - even if they pick up the car (or you drop it off at the terminal) there is no guarantee that it will get on the transporter the next day (it might be a while before it gets transported). Usually takes 5-7 days to get there. Again the issue is with the pick up and scheduling the transporter. Best of luck. Hope everything works great for you and the experience is excelent.

Let me know if I could be of any help.

I have shipped a car before from Chicago to California. I can't remeber the cost but what I did was look on e-bay under cars that are for sale and they usually list shipping companies that will give you a free quote. You could even e-mail the seller on ebay to ask them for info on shipping companies. Usually they will be glad to give you the info even if you are not buying the car. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot guys for the help. I'll look into them. Appreciate it.

I'm moving in the 19th and I've contacted a handful of people from here or from RF's messageboard and it seems that only 1 of them has some stuff available so good luck trying to find something used. I should mention, though, that my family's told me that Ikea (sp?) is a place you may want to look at. It's cheap, but the catch is that it doesn't come preassembled. So if you like to work with your hands, this may be something that'll interest you.

Hey Guys,

Before going to Ikea, or other furniture stores, you might want to stop by the school and see if they have booklet called "Life in Chicagoland" for you. It will help with getting settled in. A few of the stores in Gurnee will give student discounts. I recommend getting a bed at Bedding Experts or American Mattresses on Grand Avenue in Gurnee rather than Ikea. Remember to mention to them that you are students. I don't know of other places for furniture, but it doesn't hurt to try and mention you are students. As always, with furniture you can always bargain (don't pay list/advertised price!) at some stores, but Ikea you can't do that, but they are great for desks and shelves.

Hope that helps!

Hi 😀 Going to be living on campus but not taking a car. How difficult do you think that will be (ie needing to go to grocery store) etc?

There is a grocery store southeast from campus off Rockland (Dominicks), but its about a mile away. It's the closest area available for food or other convenience items. I am pretty sure more issues like living accomodations will be addressed during orientation.

Cant believe orientation is next wednesday...

You'd definitely need to make friends with cars 😀 It's not an ideal walk at all, especially during the winter. It's not very walking friendly since there are no sidewalks and few paths. You can get around with bussing........ but that takes a lot of patience and determination......

did i mention make friends with cars?
