RFU CMS vs UICOM Peoria
Please include any and all thoughts!
For reference I’m from Florida hoping to go back for residency with an interest in Med Peds (but still unsure), I’m currently living in Chicago with my partner who studies in Chicago as well.
RFU
Pros
1. located closer to Chicago, could stay close to my partner (huge plus)
2. Living expenses can be split with my partner
3. More opportunities for research in Chicago
4. Strong match list
5. NBME exams
6. Optional attendance, only required to spend about 1 day per week on campus, recorded lectures
Cons
1. no home hospital or home program for peds
2. Inconvenient commute from Chicago
3. Rotate through many hospital systems, an added stressor but maybe gives me and edge?
UICOM Peoria
Pros
1. All rotations are within two hospitals
2. Small class size
3. More one on one interactions during rotations
4. Close knit community
5. Less commuting time
6. Has a home pediatrics program
Cons
1. Far from my entire support system (huge con)
2. A small town feel, which I do not do well in
3. In house style exams with some NBME exams also used
4. Had 3 required in person class days per week
