Holy Cow! Has anybody ever looked at the credentials of the recipients of the Rhodes Scholarship? These are the most impressive, well rounded people I've ever seen. Some of them are pretty ridiculous and most of them have founded a really awesome foundation or initiative. I can only imagine how hard it is to get that. Are any of you rhodes scholars or do you know a rhodes scholar?

Check some of their student profiles out here:

Wow, I bet. People who are awarded the scholarship get to spend 2 years researching at Oxford. Amazing!

Once, you would be more well-liked around here if you kept a little more of your inner-monologue to yourself. I think it's a great trait to have, but your wide-eyed naivete can come off as grating. In person, I really think I would like you. On a forum, though, you come across as childish. Just my $0.02.

Yes, a friend of mine was a Rhodes Scholar. He was badass. He insists that it's not easy to find a good-looking woman in Britain. No, my friend isn't Bill Clinton.

^ damn, and i came in here to commend once on her improvements

Ah. I will keep that in mind. I am pretty impressed by these people and want to strive to achieve the level of well roundedness that they have. I see where you come from though; my awe is annoying haha.

A former Florida State football player was a Rhodes Scholar, he is pre-med and was signed to play in the NFL last year. Pretty cool.

If you're a good premed student, by the time you're a senior, a blurb written about you in that form will look pretty good, too. Don't worry. When you take someone's entire resume and condense it into one paragraph, the person seems exceptional.

aint that the truth

After I've done four years of undergrad, I may be able to tailor my resume in a way that makes me look impressive to say, a freshman or someone. I doubt I will have half the epicness of some of these rhodes scholar gods lol.

why does the korean guy from 2009 say he plays on the women's basketball squad??

He plays on the women's practice squad. Women's basketball teams frequently scrimmage against guys because its a lot easier for them to match the talent and athleticism of opposing teams. It's an odd thing to list though, and not something that I would go around bragging about.

They are impressive...Some more impressive than others though.

Surprised there weren't more pre-meds on the list. Prob because "the man" makes us do all this damn useless hospital volunteering. :meanie:

I know what you meant. I am a freshmen in college and found this scholarship and was interested in applying for it. I hold a good gpa and plan on doing plenty of ECs, research, volunteer work. I thought that alone would make me a good candidate.
That was until I saw these profiles (saw them a while ago). I was seriously like:wow:. It's not enough to be GOOD, you have to be EXCELLENT. But this drives me to take myself up a few notches, a few hundred that is.

But seriously, I'm going to have to find a small impoverished village somewhere in a third world country, clean the water, teach the children English and calculus, and when the Nobel prize in Literature for writing a series of novels about my experiences there to get the Rhodes Scholarship

LOL but no winning that scholarship is gonna be hard

I actually was surprised by how many pre-meds there were haha. It seemed that about 1/3 of them wanted to be either a physician or a physician-scientist.

I wonder if any of the pre-meds on the list will get turned down...that'd be really depressing.

Maybe it depends on the cycle. I only glanced at a single year.

For someone to go through the process for Rhodes successfully, I doubt they would fail at the admission process to med school.

1) They are all obviously smart (i.e. great transcripts).
2) They have baller EC's.
3) None of them are apparently socially ******ed (rhodes has an extensive interview/schmooze process itself).
4) Many med schools would prob love to brag on their "student body" profiles that they have a Rhodes scholar in the cohort.

Goldwater, Fullbright, UDALL, and USA Today are nice national scholarships to list on one's CV too.

It's stupid to apply for the Rhodes just as an EC for medical school, which sounds like what a lot of people in this thread want to do.

Not to sound like a douche either, but... you're an inventor on a international patent? You're a national level sports player? You've started an organization that is relatively large? That's what these people have done.. As well as maintained high grades and relationships with profs/managers. You need something like 5-8 LOR's. I obviously don't know you, but I highly doubt (by pure statistics & prob) you have similar credentials as these kids. You're not the only one doing lots of work too.. That's just not enough. These are the best of the best. But if you truly are THAT great, apply and I hope you win.

Ok I went back and looked at some more profiles. No Im not on the level as the ones that is involved with Aids in Africa or won the Olympics (nor do I want to, rather spend time with my son) but I do think Im on par with quite a few of them. But this post is irrelevent I was just mentioning my life with what I read from their profiles. They are top notch though. Hell I just wanna be a doc.

Wow. That is impressive. Plenty of cookie cutter applicants get admitted to med school every year, so if you're anything like some of them then you're golden haha.
