riddle me this..

how does one work friday nights until 4:30 AM, get home at 6, and wake up at 7 for a 6-hour long anatomy & physiology 2 lecture and lab class at saturday mornings at 8:30 AM?

if anyone knows the answer to this riddle, i'd appreciate it if you filled me in, because this is what i will have to do for the fall semester. 🙁

any motivational words of wisdom will help too !

Well why would you have made this decision in the first place? It's not very wise...just throwin that out there. Obviously the only way to do it is wait until Saturday afternoon to sleep.

Check to see if you can reschedule work hours? If it's not possible, take a good long nap before you go to work & then prepare yourself with lots of coffee.

Just don't go to sleep...24 hour days aren't that bad.

Are amphetamines an option?

I did this for most of a year. Your body gets used to it. Do you have class on Fridays? If not, sleep plenty late. If so, well, take naps. You'll pretty much get home and crash when class is over, but it's doable. Try to switch your work schedule around, and in the meantime figure out whether you can skip the lecture portions once in awhile and learn to live with it.

You always have the option of quitting your job. That's what I would do. Well, I wouldn't have a job when I am in school in the first place. lol..

I could do that maybe once or twice... But not for a semester. I would get run down and probably get sick. But maybe you could handle it better than me. Sounds like poor planning and a bad idea IMO. But hey you could try it and make changes as needed. I would have a hard time sitting through a six hour class. Add lack of sleep and I'd be miserable!!! I'm curious how this turns out though. Keep us posted!

Just reread... Lecture and lab would definitely be more feasible. But it will be difficult.

Reschedule hours is the best thing to do, but you can also sleep extra hours before you go to work.

I dub you "slacker".😉

maybe a little bit...but not much! I have never worked while I was in school before and don't plan on torturing myself like that.

I also recommend not working after you graduate, sense we are obviously talking about some parallel world where people don't need money.

But seriously I actually agree with this advice, that schedule is no good for you. Find another job with better hours or live off student loans. I recommend a mix of the two.

Are you familiar with Adderall?

Eh, it's one day a week. Pound some Red Bull and you'll be fine.

It's my second week in pharmacy school and I worked 51 hours. Now THAT'S hard lol

It is doable but I would not recommend it for health reasons. Graveyard shift alone is quite unhealthy (see pubmed). Take a low dose melatonin 0.5-1mg, more on the ceiling value for women.

WOW! I can't imagine. Just wow.

Congrats on getting onto pharmacy school. I love your posts about your classmates, BTW. You seem to take a pretty dim view of them (surely they can't all be that bad?), but not a day goes by I don't get annoyed by something someone says/does. Reading your musings about them had me nodding my head in agreement. Upper classmen are often the worst, IMO. Actually I take that back; both upper and lower can be equally annoying.

Health is more important than money.
If you can at all, work less. You can always take out student loans to pay for tuition. Yes you'll have less money, but you'll get it back when you're a pharmacist, and you'll be more healthy.

I always save my final decision the perception of people for well after I first met them. Hell, I give terrible first impressions, most people think I'm an ass lol

I just expected a lil more out of them

Go to work Saturday night instead of Friday night. Your weekends are screwed anyway.

Phatty is it just me, or does everyone here hate to work? I work 6 days a week plus school full time. Before school I worked 2 jobs. I don't get it, hard work never hurt anyone.😕

You can get Provigil for Shift Work Sleep Disorder. Of course your doctor would have to be willing to prescribe it.

the place I'm at now, they have to pull teeth to get interns to work 1 four hour shift a month

At my office we have substitutes that only answer their phone when they fill like it. WTF is the point of being on call if you don't answer? This pisses off the rest of us who have to do two routes in one day.

Then they have the nerve to bitch about their small checks and that the supervisor stops calling them.😕

Damn government can't fire these people.😡

Right. And YOUR sGPA was what, a 2.7 ish? And it took you three (?) tries to get into pharmacy school?

Now I know why. While you're working to make money, those of us who work just a few hours or not at all are investing in the future...because with the 3 years you worked your ass off at a job but didn't get in, I'll be out three years earlier and making 100k/year for those years.

My sGPA the last 3 years I was in school was a 3.51, my cGPA a 3.67 and I only applied to pharmacy school once and got four acceptances, but nice try.

I'm not working to make money, I'm working because I have to. Some of my undergrad loans have lapsed into payment, I have a child on the way and soon my wife will no longer be able to work. My hours will tame down after this week as starting the second job put a few hiccups in my schedule.

I ended up going to school longer because I changed my major to better reflect what I want to do in the pharmacy profession, so I was investing in my future. I'm not stupid, trust me on that.

Just make sure you sleep sometime. Maybe take a long nap friday afternoon (I don't know what your friday class schedule is like)
Hard work never hurt anyone but not sleeping isn't healthy. You also don't want to do something like fall asleep at the wheel when you're driving home after a night of working and a 6 hour class. Could you possibly take the class at another local school?

When do you start work on Friday? And do you have anything else to do on Fridays?

OMG!!!!!! I don't know if it would win BIGGEST, but definitely top 5! Wow.

To the OP: Although your situation SUCKS, like you said, if you're determined to make it work, you will make it work.

thanks for everyone's input.. i appreciate all the words of wisdom you have for me, but i think i'm just going to have to tough it out. i really have zero way out of my work schedule. i really don't want to take out any more loans because i have 3 already i'm trying to pay off from previous colleges i attended and i need to make the money because i also help out at home with my parents.

i work thursday, friday, and saturday nights until very late, not to mention i have class in the morning on all of these days ! thursday and friday classes aren't so bad.. i get home early enough to squeeze in a 3-hour nap before work, maybe.

i had my first day of weekend class this morning. i slept for an hour after work 🙁 but i'm really determined to make this work. i have been doing full-time course loads and graveyard shifts for years now, but i feel as if it was easier when i was younger when my bones weren't so brittle and my muscles weren't so sore all the time lol.

oh well. i only have 12 more saturdays to go !!! im gonna continue with my reign of being the unofficial spokesperson for monster energy drink.

Just to give your fair warning, it's the second time that's the hardest. The first time you have a pretty big adrenaline boost.
