Sorry this is my first post, but I have a question about Pt school. I am a Psychology major biology minor at Penn state. My gpa is around a 3.4ish right now. However I am trying to get my pre req done, and penn state is not an easy school. I have gotten a C+ in Chem 1, and B- in Biology. I start anatomy next semester. Granted I know I still have a lot of science classes left, I just feel like Im already out of it for the pre-req gpa. I have 110 hours of observational hours, In pre-physical therapy club. Also doing a semester long internship in an elderly home for my major before I graduate and in the college national honor society. Plus I have also a lot of other things for extra curriculum activities. Im just wondering am I in trouble for Pt? Granted I have 2 1/2 years left and still have Gres. I just want to make sure I am on the right track

Hi!
GPA is a big part of the admissions decision since it allows schools to easily weed people out due to the large number of applicants they get. I would try as hard as you can to do well in your prereq's and maybe consider re-taking any you got a C+ in. It's not the end of the world if your gpa isn't the highest and it looks like you have great observational hours.
I would recommend doing inpatient observation hours if you haven't already and also getting hours in a variety of settings if the 110 you mentioned are just in one place. Also, show interest in the schools that you are interested in and think you have a good shot of getting into. Go to open houses and sit in on a class if they allow it when you're in the process of applying or right before.
Do well on your GRE and do well in the rest of your prereq's! 🙂 Good luck!

Bump. But thank you dpt18 on your comment

I would also consider retaking the C+ class too. Maybe over the summer. If those are your only low grades, you will probably be ok. But you need to really get some As in there. Especially with anatomy and physiology.

If you get straight A's in the rest of your pre-reqs you shouldn't need to retake that C. But you should probably retake if you have several more B's. Retaking is not worth it though if you are not going to get an A. Some schools take the higher of the two, but some schools average them so if you retook you would average out to a B.

The best thing you can do for yourself at this point is to get A's in your remaining classes.
