I am confused. I was under the impression that in order to become a registered nurse (sit for the NCLEX-RN), you had to have an associate or bachelor degree in nursing?
However I keep seeing degrees available for the RN-MSN track. These degrees specify that they are designed for RNs who do not have a bachelors or associates already.

Can you become an RN without a degree in nursing?😕

Well, in the past there were a lot of diploma RN programs. I don't know if NCLEX requires a degree. The RN-MSN thing is popular for nurses that have associate's degrees and want to move on up to the advanced practice role, administration, education, or something.

I don't know if they're still around, but hospital-based schools of nursing used to be the norm, and they granted nursing diplomas, not degrees.

I think what you are looking at are some of the accelerated/direct-entry programs. Basically, you get a Bachelor's degree in some field, then do a condensed nursing program to get your RN in one year, then your MSN or NP in another one to two years.
