What are the different functions of them? Is this beyond the scope of the mcat?

RNA polymerase I-rRNA
RNA polymerase II-mRNA, snRNA, microRNA
RNA polymearse III-5S rRNA, tRNA and other small RNAs

I wouldn't say it's beyond the scope of the mcat

You need to know that RNA polymerase is active during transcription. That's all.

Anything else they'll give you in the passage.

I would just remember:

RNA pol I: rRNA
RNA pol II: mRNA
RNA pol III: tRNA

I remember it by using the little phrase "are empty", for r-m-t (I, II, & III).

Similarly, I was taught "rampant, massive, tiny" which tells you about the actual characteristics of each type of RNA as well as the letter.

Rampant refers to the large amount of rRna in the cell. As in, there's a lot of rRna, because there's a lot of ribosomes...etc.
