there is a step where they use K2Cr2O7. Its to the left side of the roadmap. Ok I know it will oxidize to COOH but there were 2 carbons attached to the ring.
Ph--CH2--CH3. SHouldnt it become Ph--CH2--COOH?? Instead they made it
Ph--COOH. How?? what happened to the other carbon?

Also there is a step where they use LAH. Not the one on top of the map but the one on the right side where LAH is used on the amide that was formed. My question is that shouldnt the C=O now become C-OH instead of CH2??

thanks!! :)

Regardless of how many C's are attached, it all of them in 1 COOH group. SO if 3-4-5 C's right after eachother.. they all become one COOH.
