Have any of you tried the Robbins Q book? Review of pathology i think its called. I've gotten behind in the readings and have been rushing through the chapters faster than before. And now I'm getting something like 50% of the q's right.

Should i be freaking out b/c i'll get a 50% on the upcoming path exam? Or are the questions just hard? Any one tried it? What percentage of the q's do you normally get right?

(Really freaking out about path now)

Full disclosure: I haven't taken a path exam yet, so I can't comment on similarities between the Qbook items and our block exams, but...

I find myself getting around a 75% on most of the chapter questions. Mind you, this is usually either just after reading the chapter or maybe reviewing the material in BRS Path a day after I read the chapter, so things are still really fresh. I figure the trick to the book is less seeing how many you can get right, and more forcing yourself to think about the material in a novel way and exposing yourself to clinical ways to apply your knowledge. I think as long as you are able to understand why you got the questions wrong that you did, you're golden.

Silent,
I would not get too concerned about it. I think that the questions in the review of pathology are good because they are very difficult (even with reading the book) and make you think about each answer. I was getting about 75-80% right per chapter 1,2,3,4,6,and 7 and aced my first path exam.
Point being, if you can think through the robbins review questions you should be able to on your schools exams.

That book is gold.

If it doesn't make you ace your Path tests something is wrong . . . or your teacher writes amazingly crappy test questions. Either way, the question book will definitely help you once you get to Step 1.

p.s. -- start looking at Goljan's notes and/or listening to the lectures if you are not already

im getting around 75% right so far...im curious, what is good/bad in terms of questions...what are the rest of you getting?

I got in the 50s on the questions too and passed path and did fine on the USMLE. No worries. Just keep plugging away.

I also find the question banks at the Webpath site to be pretty useful. They definitely hit things from a slightly different slant than the Review of Path book.

The book is great and yes the questions are hard. Just make sure to read all of the answer explanations thoroughly and if you understand them I think you're definitely on the right track...
