Can I ask those of you who have been accepted to Rochester, where are you from and (ballpark) what do your #s look like?

I got waitlisted after a September interview and I'm somewhat surprised. I thought my interview went really well and the rest of my app is fairly solid. They DID ask me if I really wanted to come all the way to Rochester from sunny CA given that I may be accepted to a UC and wonder what part that might have played...

Thanks

Lanced, the same thing happened to me. I got in at two other places, so I decided to quit playing the game, especially since I think I would be happier at the two other schools. I was really surprised to be waitlisted though given my stats and the interviews that went well. Curious to know who they're accepting right now.

my mdapplicants profile is below. i applied to Rochester for 2005 admission, then reapplied for 2007. i'm originally from Upstate NY, did college in NJ, then law school and grad school in NYC - now working on Long Island.

i think for me, it was my retake of the MCAT that put me over the top (i did not get a Rochester interview in 2005). i went up from a 30 (april '04) to a 39 (april '06). that, plus being a reapplicant showed some level of dedication/determination. and it definitely didn't hurt being from upstate NY originally - the weather up there's quite horrible in the winter (i know!). by my own interviewers' admission, they're looking to whether you'll be a "good fit" there, not only whether you're qualified. since i'm a weird non-traditional applicant with exposure to several other disciplines, that may have sold me to them well as a fit for the biopsychosocial goodness that's part and parcel of their mission statement.

all said, though...it's random, dude. don't take it personally, you'll end up getting really depressed like i did from 2004-2005. speaking as someone who was hanging by that thread known as a waitlist (from Vanderbilt in '05)...just move on and continue playing the admissions game with the other schools. ironically, i got flatout rejected from Vandy this year, after putting in research time and jacking up my MCAT - it's a stochastic process. with your stats, you're bound to get into a comparable program to Rochester's, maybe better.

that's good news! at the end of my second interview, my interviewer said "I think you would be a good fit here." 😀
