Rochester?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
oh god yes! i just got the secondary in the mail (i'm a little late in the process and i'm gonna fill it out this weekend)
i would so much love to be in your position right now! congratulations!!!

as an aspiring UofR matriculant, could you give some info/insight into what they're looking for that might stand out? (and if you dont mind, your stats or even a synopsis of your interview and opinion of the facilities and campus) i think i'm a little weak for what they're going for ( 29N MCAT, 10 in verbal and bio; 3.4 gpa; shadowed physician; great LOR; decent EC; love of biopsychosocial model) but i can hope!

once again, congratulations!

Rochester is awesome. I worked there all summer and loved every minute of it. I am complete there and just waiting for an interview.

sure...
well you can learn about my stats/ECs, etc here:

The impression I got from the whole interview day is that they want people who really jive with their philosophy on medical education. When I went for my interviews, I had a bunch of reasons why I wanted to attend the school (i.e., great research opportunities, small class size, the curriculum) and made sure to bring all of them up with each of my two interviewers. The thing is, I didn't just give each of those things lip service, I discussed how they specifically pertained to me.

As far as the people they're looking for... this certainly is a generalization, because I feel I had the opportunity to meet many more students unaffiliated with the admissions committee at UofR than any of my other interviews, but the students were incredibly nice and outgoing. They all seemed very happy to be there and loved the school, their profs, and fellow classmates. So I guess my point here is that they want people who they think will be passionate about going to UofR and also 'people people', for lack of a better term.

The interviews themselves, as anybody will tell you on interview feedback, were purely conversational. One of my interviewers asked me some pretty tough questions I guess, but my answers seemed to resonate with him.

The facilities are absolutely beautiful and brand new. I don't think you'll find many nicer , but I can't say anything about Strong Memorial Hospital, as it wasn't included in the tour.

So, in sum, things I loved about the school:
-curriculum
-facilities (new everything, PBL rooms, beautiful lecture halls)
-students (happy, outgoing)
-the administration/faculty seem genuinely concerned about the happiness/success of their students (as an example, they make significant changes to courses annually based on student feedback)
-fully funded international research opportunities available to basically everyone

I hope that helps in some way. Good luck!

I interviewed there yesterday and absolutely fell in love with the school. The facilities are incredible and the students are super friendly and very enthusiastic. Everyone was really nice. I would love to go there....

Advice: Stay with a student host when you go. My host was very warm and made me feel welcome.
