Hi guys,

I was wondering what the advantages are for applying early to a school with rolling admissions. My GPA is on the low side but before I turn in my whole application I want pharmacy schools to see how I have improved (I want them to see my fall 2010 transcript before making a decision). Most rolling admission schools I am applying to have deadlines of February 1st. Is it okay to have the application complete and sent out towards the end of December when my grades are out? Or does that really screw up my chances for an interview? On one hand, I want to apply early and have the best chance possible, but then on the other hand I don't want them rejecting me until they have seen my fall 2010 grades. Would I have a better shot my applying early with my lower GPA or submitting my application by the end of the year with a better GPA? Thankssssss!

Rolling admissions is like a first come first served kinda deal. You're best chances of getting accepted is when you apply early because you essentially have less applicants to compete with. The longer you wait the less your chances of getting accepted because some schools will make their decisions after each interview. How much of an increase do you think a good semester will have on your GPA? You will be gambling your chances the longer you wait. IMO

Thanks for the advice! Although I am taking a pretty big gamble, I think I'm going to wait to send most of my applications. I believe an improvement in my GPA will a lot better than if I were to just send my application without my fall grades! Thanks again!

You gotta play the game, though. If you get into a rolling admissions school, you have to pay the deposit to hold your seat. If you get into your top choice later, you lose the cash. If you can, try to get an interview with your top choices before the others. Usually I say try to interview at a "backup" first because you get the practice with an interview but, in this case, interviewing at a "back up" first could mean you lose lots of money.

Just apply now. If you don't get in early, you will be placed on hold/waiting list. When that happens, call them and remind them that your grades have improved

If right from the get-go you are rejected, I doubt that a semester would make much of a difference

I'm in a pretty bad situation (I wrote a thread about my situation maybe like a week ago - I attended University of the Pacific's 3+3 direct pharmacy program but didn't continue there). Here's the link to the thread if you're bored haha: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=752750

Maybe I could apply to half of them early and the other half later? I still don't know. If the schools aren't going to have proof of improvement, I think they'll just reject me off the bat. My personal statement and recommendations will be awesome and hopefully my PCAT will be good but after looking at this forum more, it seems that nothing can override a low GPA so I know I'm fighting an uphill battle for sureee!

If I apply early, is it harder to get rejected or something? Is getting an interview more possible early in the game? Wouldn't there still be spots available in December or am I competing with even better applicants then?

rxlea: Every school that I am applying to is my top choice school. I am applying to around 25 schools and I will be happy where ever I get admission.

Thanks for taking the time and helping me out, guys! I really do appreciate it, even though I have gotten quite a bit of negative remarks lol. I guess I have to stick with the fact that whatever hurts you can only make you stronger! =)

I mean whatever doesn't kill you, can only make you stronger. My bad haha!
