I just found out that Michigan State has rolling admissions. Has anyone seen other schools that do the same thing? Also, am I too late to submitt my application, since I haven't done that yet?😕

Don't worry! I doubt you are too late, unless they have already filled their class (unlikely) you probably still have time. Also, I believe most (if not all) the other schools in the US are not rolling admissions. Good Luck!

Luvdawgs: Did you thoroughly read through the Mich St. webpage? It is very clear about how their admissions process works.

I understand that there is still a chance to get in but have heard from some med school friend that schools with rolling admissions are harder to get into if applying later in the cycle.

Also, I have anther side question. I have attended two community colleges. One was in high school to get started on credits and another for summer classes. Do I need to send those transcripts separately along with my university transcripts? Or just my university transcripts with the credits already included from the community colleges?

I know some of the ways certain med schools do rolling admissions is pretty goofy. Essentially they evaluate students in groups-and relative to those in each group. So if you've got a 3.5, and you're in the group with with a bunch of 4.0's you might not get it, but if you're in a group where everyone else has a 3.2, you're fine. Some schools (I know some vet schools) will actually "roll over" the people that didn't get in in one group into to next....some medicial school don't.

I know with a lot of the vet schools that roll, they do examine you again if there wasn't something really wrong with your application (like not meeting the pre-reqs/minimums).

Depending on what you are doing/did this summer (and the vet school you are applying to) it might be better to wait untill later to officially apply. I took 7 summer classes and did a lot more shadowing the summer before my application was due. If I had submitted it earlier my new (and really good grades) would *not* have been included in the offical GPA that I would have applied with. Yes, getting stuff in later may have draw-backs, but depending on your situation, there might be more significant benefits to waiting.

When in doubt, always call the school.

You need to send them all. I took several classes at several univeristies while in HS and over the summers, and you need to send them all from the original schools. Break out that checkbook.

Amen to the checkbook comment. I went to two community colleges, two universities for my two bachelors degrees... Times three years of applying to multiple vet schools plus a couple of grad school applications oh and did I mention GRE scores? And of course none of the transcripts were free (it was only this year that I heard some schools don't charge for them). But yeah there's no going cheap on this VMCAS deal... I'm sure there were people in those records offices that knew my credit card number pretty well.

Thank you so much for the input. Now speaking of that checkbook... grrr!
