I had one, but it was my girlfriend...
I lived alone in grad school, and it was a great setup for me. I have a tendency to pace and talk aloud while I work out ideas. And I'm a night owl, so I'm guessing a roommate may have wanted to kill me.

I think it depends entirely on your situation. I'll be living alone for M1. My fiance is finishing up a degree in our current city and will be finding a job/moving down to me next year. I considered roommates, but I wanted him to be able to come and visit without feeling awkward for staying too long or stepping on anyone's toes. Plus, I really like my alone time. But, that's just me!
