How have you guys handled the housing situation? I’m still debating on whether to get a roommate or not. If I get a roommate, we’d help each other to afford a nice apartment, but he may also make my life miserable 😡 (and I’m not that excited about the school assigning me a roommate almost randomly).

Are you guys planning on getting a roommate? When should I start to look for an apartment?

Another issue that has been raised on other threads is whether or not living with a classmate is a good idea. Some people say it’s a good idea because they get to study together, etc. While others say it’s a recipe for disaster, since you’d be seeing that person 24 hrs/day.

I personally think it would be a good idea to live with a dental student or other professional student, because they would be as busy as I’d be, while each of us could have our own lives.

What are you planning on doing?

many at UHCO have roommates. But, quite a few of them have roomies from another class so that they don't see them ALL the time. But, many like having same class roomies so they have the same schedule and can carpool

I plan on living by myself for a little while. I'm a little worried about the stress factor as it is, just being in a new place with REALLY hard classes. -- stress makes people do crazy things, I'm not to fun when I'm stressed.

I know how miserable a bad roommate can make someone. Also, its hard to say if you can live with someone that you haven't met or just barely know.

Hopefully it wont take me long to find a roommate and then my rent can go down 🙂 -- but I think its worth the extra money to not hate my life because of a roommate and then do poorly my first semester of optometry school and fail out (worst possible case).

Disclaimer-- I have not met anyone where I will be attending optometry school that would make me hate my life. I like each and every one of you 🙂

group hug! (jk)

I would definately live with a roomate your first year. It's a lot healthier, and besides, you would benefit from helping and motivating eachother. The people make the biggest difference when going to optometry schoool. You can always live alone the second year once you have accustomed to the area. It will save you $$, and everyone needs new friends anyway when going to school. That's my advice.

My life would be WAY more miserable without my two (didn't know either of them before we moved in) roommates. They keep me sane, have the same schedule as me, stress out with me, destress with me, let me complain, etc etc etc. Living alone sounds pretty miserable to me- and don't count on finding a roommate halfway through the year because everyone will have already signed leases and everything. Good luck.

hmm, good suggestions. Maybe I'll reconsider. O! are you guy or a girl?? It seems to me that guys can get along with anyone, but girls are different.

girl. and living with two girls... we have a three bedroom house with tons of room so even if we didn't get along i think we'd be ok.
