Hi,

I was just wondering which school was better. I have interviews for both of these schools, and I was just curious on which school is better. I've been told that Midwestern is better than RFU.
Based on current job market for pharmacists, I always keep this quote in mind:

"What do you call a student that graduated top of his/her class at a top ranked pharmacy school vs a student who graduated bottom of his/her class at the lowest ranked pharmacy school? A pharmacist"

3 things you look for in a pharmacy school program:

1) Regional Accreditation (No pending, National, or Candidate Status)
2) Cost of Attendance (Tuition, Cost of Living)
3) NAPLEX pass rate ( > 80% )

Midwestern Cost: $45,169 with an 93.4% NAPLEX pass rate (Glendale Campus) and 85.5% NAPLEX pass rate (Chicago Campus) (3 year program option)

Rosalind Franklin: $38,273 with an 81.4% first time NAPLEX pass rate (4 year)

Both are fully accredited and non-profit organizations. I presume your comparing both programs in the Chicago area so I will safely state that COL in both areas is a wash. Should you apply to the 3 year program at Midwestern in Chicago, I would attend to that program solely on pace of graduation and cost for such a program. However, if you have no pharmacy experience and plan on living in Chicago, your going to find potential issues when landing a full-time job with the current pharmacy saturation taking place (Buyers-Remorse so be aware).

In the end, the choice is yours. I am simply basing my own findings purely on a financial comparison. Other factors take place such as where family is located and networking abilities if you plan on interning in a pharmacy you have currently been a technician at for some time.

I have to disagree in certain cases that all pharmacy schools are the same, but if you are talking about both Chicago cases, neither is better, they are both private and high tuition. UIC would be the better option on tuition and reputation grounds. The one to avoid is Chicago State.

Knowing Midwestern a bit better, the AZ campus is better than the IL one. Rosalind Franklin has a bad reputation among the ACPE crowd in their graduate division, but that argument does not negatively affect the undergraduate PharmD program.
