Hello, everyone I just got accepted into Ross Universities' vet prep program and I am very excited but I had a couple of questions for students who have gone through this process.

1. How many people get accepted per semester/how many people are with you in the class?

2. What is the passing rate percentage of vet prep?

3. What are the classes that we have to take?

I got accepted into Vet Prep as well and am wondering the same questions

Only pointing one thing out about it. Since it is not part of vet school, it is not part of the AVMA accredited program, which means it is not eligible for federal loans so you have to get a private loan for that semester. I believe private loans are not eligible for certain things like forgiveness after 20 years with the tax bomb and are also not eligible for things like income based repayment either. Just making sure everyone is fully aware what they’re signing up for before starting the vetprep program :)

How long did it take for you to hear back after your interview?

Same with me! My interviewer told me it would be 4-6 weeks but I heard back less then a week later. I am a second year applicant though and last year it took them three months to get back to me and I was denied.

I work at a nine practice animal hospital and 5/9 went to Ross! Two of them did vet prep and they both agreed it helped them out in adjusting to the island life without having the stress of being in first semester and it actually gave them a head start into learning some of the material that's going to be covered later. Those who didn't do vet prep said they wish they would've, which makes me feel a bit better about going into vet prep first!

Did they say any pros and cons about Ross?

I was accepted to Ross Vet Prep but I’m not sure if I’m going to go- I haven’t been able to get any legitimate answers on vet prep success rates/withdrawal/graduation rate/or pass rate which all seem like major red flags to me

The Ross prep program doesn’t count for federal loans. You’d have to take out private as you are not formally accepted into a vet school until the completion of the prep program. It’s essentially another semester of undergrad.

Just received my phone call for acceptance into Vet Prep Fall 2023. To be honest, I'm grateful it's not a no but bummed I'm not going into the program directly. But looking at the bright side my chance to be a veterinarian is still there. I worked with a Ross 2017 grad who is a great ER doctor. She went into vet prep first and told me it was the best thing she did as far as acclimating to the island life earlier and having a smaller cohort while making great connections with the faculty that she later used for her internship recommendations. Just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences.

I took out a private loan through Discover to do my post-bac out of state. The extra loans of course do hurt but it was the best private loan I found that allowed me to be a stronger applicant this second time around. I liked Discover as a loan provider because they do allow you to pause payments while you're in school and I didn't need a cosigner. The other private loans I looked into do not allow you to pause payments and while the interest is higher than federal loans, it's necessary as I can't make that monthly payment while in vet school. So that may be an option to look into for those considering private loans. I do plan to save as much as possible to not have to take out that loan or not the full amount if I don't need to.

As with any school, I truly think it is what you make it and seek out the opportunities available to you. I know many Ross graduates who are great doctors, Medical directors, specialists, etc. I also know people who started the program and didn't finish for various reasons. I applied to another school in the states and others have told me their students are incompetent while personally knowing graduates from the program who are thriving in their careers. I would want my school to set me up for success but also know I have to make the most of every opportunity I can. That's just my two cents that no one asked for lol. I do hope to attend a school in the states as I'm taking my cats with me and it's just easier than traveling internationally, but it's still a waiting game and I'll be looking into what all the vet prep program entails until I hear otherwise. Maybe I'll see some people on the island!

I was in vet prep august 2019, there was about 30 of us. I’d say maybe 10 didn’t go on to 1st semester. It’s a really good tell that if you struggle in vet prep you will struggle or fail out of the vet program- speaking from experience seeing some of my friends that struggled with vet prep and after.

That being said, you are not any lesser for being put in vet prep- at least 3 in my vet prep group had the highest gpa’s when they finished 7th and left for clinics.

Classes you take:
1. Functional anatomy = anatomy basics and terminology
2. Cell bio = combo class of sciences like cellular bio, physiology, acid base, etc
3. Pharmacology = pharm and medical math. Excellent prep for pharm later
4. Microbio = another combo class, includes lil snapshots of what’s to come in virology, immunology, parasitology, bacteriology

Congrats!! Vet prep was my first acceptance but I'm still waiting on decisions from 4 more schools. So for now me too :)

Have you heard back from any other schools? I'm still waiting on 2 more but I'm not super hopeful, trying to find other Ross Vet Prep Fall 2023 friends to be anxious with haha

Officially committing to Vet Prep! I’m deferring to the January start date though

Hi guys! I'll be attending Vet Prep this fall, nice to e-meet you all aha. I tried emailing Justin and Taras but it seems like they are very busy as they haven't gotten back to me in a month so I hope you guys can answer some of my questions to ease my confusion.

1. I was wondering when the deadline for applying for on-campus housing/residence is and if it's easy to get it?

2. Do we book the flight ticket on August 28 and the return flight ticket on December 14 (last day of exams) and can we still reserve that same room for the first semester of the DVM program?

3. Any essential things/tips I should know before moving there?

4. How are you guys going about the student visa?

Thanks, I can't wait to meet you all yay!!

This thread was helpful. I was initially accepted into Fall 2023 Vet Prep but I recently deferred to Spring 2024. Looks as if I need to do some saving and a little more research before diving in. Good luck to all who are going in September and I hope you all will come back with sound advice for the next class.
