I am currently deciding between two medical schools. The University of Miami which has a very strong clinical reputation and the other is a first year med school (UCF).

During your 3rd and 4th year at the University of Miami, you rotate mostly, if not completely through UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital. It is an insanely large and diverse hospital.

As I understand it, during the 3rd and 4th year at UCF, the different rotations will be taking place at different hospitals.

I was wondering if anyone could comment/ give their opinion on whether there is a difference/advantage to rotating in one hospital for 2 years vs rotating in say 5 different hospitals over the clerkship years.

Thanks.

Go with UCF, no tuition>1 large hospital.

Definitely the free tuition! How could being at a large and diverse hospital even compare to that?

Free tuition, for that kind of money I'd rotate through any hospital(s) they asked me to. Hell, I'd even rotate through them in a kilt.

UM is a good school with a lot of opportunities (especially research if you're interested in that)

....BUT....

if it was me I would totally jump on the UCF deal for a free medical education. Still in a decent sized city with good clinical sites right there in the area.

Thanks for the replies. I totally recognize the incredible opportunity that UCF is offering but I am so nervous and apprehensive about the whole "new med school" thing....

Rotating through multiple hospitals lets you see how different hospital departments work. It is a big plus. Might also all have separate residency programs so it gives you more places to apply to as an insider. But med school is med school, so there is no real wrong answer.
