Hello, I have a question about rotation at UHS. Do all of the blocks of rotations stay in one place or do we have to travel to different places to do different blocks of rotation?

Thanks

It depends on the site. If you have to travel to various places, it won't be far from your core site and this would only be because your core site doesn't offer the clerkship you need. For example, the Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in Florida (which is one of the UHS core sites), probably doesn't have a pediatric clerkship so you will be placed in a pediatric clerkship in the vicinity of your core site. For your 3rd year elective, you may choose to go wherever you want. In other words, you can stay at your core site, or set up your own clerkship at another site (and it does not have to be a UHS site either). In your 4th year you can set up your own clerkships, except for a few that you must do at your core site. UHS has several different core sites all over the US and in December of your 2nd year you pick the top 3 places where you would like to rotate, then the school does a random lottery and chances are good you will get one of your top 3 picks. Out of 250 students this year, only about 25 didn't get the top 3 choices. So chances are pretty good you will get the spot you want.
Hope this helps-let me know if you have more questions.🙄

Hello DrSmiles, can you recommed some core sites?

Thanks

I would love to recommend some core sites, but alas 🙄 I am only a MSI, so I can only go by hearsay...
Some of the sites are at major hospitals, like up in Michigan or Pennsylvania (Mercy), some are rural, and some move you around the city, like in Kansas City. It changes every year too, so they might add or take some sites away. For example, Botsford used to be a UHS cite, but we lost our DME person who handles the rotations there, so they dropped it. I hear it was a fantastic site too.
They have about 3 in Florida which I hear are poplular (but who knows, this could be strictly due to the weather). Most of the students either end up in the KC area (especially if you are in the UHS MBA program), and a lot of them go to the Ohio/Michigan area. I guess it all really depends on what you want. I hear Detroit Riverview is right in the heart of Detroit, and if you want to see gunshot wounds etc. then this is the place to go.
If you end up going to UHS, they have what they call, hospital day, where you have the chance to talk to all the reps from these sites and see what they have to offer.
There are a lot of sites, which is one reason I chose UHS, lots of flexibility to serve areas you are most interested in.

I graduated from UHS in 02...I'll help.

Ohio sites are good as well as Michigan. Philly I heard good things as well.
I was in St. Louis and loved it (rotated with many St. Louis U students).
As for your 4th year, I went back to my home town of Indianapolis and set up all my own rotations (mostly at IU related hospitals).
