Rotation Question

How many students are with you during the rotations? I know it varies but i'm looking for a general number. is it like 8 students to 1 preceptor or is it much smaller. i know it's different in different settings, but any information is greatly appreciated.

if possible, list the rotation and how many other students was part of the rotation. trying to be as educated as possible.

It depends on where you work. At a big hospital, you may have 3 students per preceptor. In retails, you may have 1 student per 2 pharmacists.

This can also be limited by state law. For example, in Oklahoma only 1 student at a time per preceptor. Unless you are faculty, then you can have 2.

Most of the time I was alone. For one rotation I was with 2 other APPE students and up to 3 IPPE students at a site that wasn't busy at all. That was an easy A but I didn't learn much there other than the fact that you can give Opium to babies to help them with withdrawal and that Opium is a C2.

My retail IPPE, it was me and another student and our preceptor had us each working half days so that was pretty sweet. Retail APPE was just me.

Most of my hospital APPEs were 2 students, but a few had 4 students, and some of my electives like compounding and MTM had 6 students.

Hosp was the only rotation where we had more than 1 student. Centenella took a bunch from SC, UOP, and Western.

Most of my other rotations were just with 1 student like amb care. Community is usually by yourself.

In Texas, we also have a 1:1 intern to preceptor ratio.
