I have to decide pretty soon where I will be doing the majority of my rotations 3rd and 4th yr. One hospital is only 5-10 mins from my apartment but has no residents and not much in terms of formal didactics. It's all 1 on 1 with attendings. The positive is it seems to have a good schedule and the possibility to get a good LOR since you work directly with attendings. The negative I think is that I'm afraid that without being able to work with residents I wont get much experience with seeing how residents work. Also I am afraid residency programs will look down at my clinical training if they learn during the interview that I did not train under residents in a real academic oriented hospital. Are these fears rational?
The other hospital is 30 mins away also with good hours but is a much more traditional hospital with residents and formal didactics.
Any advice on which I should choose would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would go where the best learning will be had. It's great working with just an attending but for your core rotations you'll get the most bang for your buck and learn the world of medicine working around everyone. Plus, half an hour isn't too bad of a drive.

Isn't it better to just get the easier schedule/better grade and the good LOR?

There is a lot to learn from residents, so I think that's the better place to rotate. It's not just about the residents teaching you, as the quality of resident teaching is variable. Rotating with residents also allows you to get a more inside look at residency life among different specialties, which may aid in your career choice.

Thanks for the advice so far. Just to clarify I'm not trying to go to the place with the easiest schedule as both have pretty similar schedules. I think I probably would get more and a better education at the hospital with residents. On the other hand at the hospital where u are only with attendings I thought it may be easier to get honors and a good LOR especially since there are far fewer students to compete with and I tend to be quieter than most of my classmates in group situations.
