Hey guys....

Starting to feel like I won't be getting into dental school this cycle. I had a feeling as my stats were not amazing.

3.3 gpa 19AA lots of extracurriculars and volunteering.

My question is that I will be applying for a masters program to help my application next cycle , however my science gpa is a 2.97. Is it possible to do a MBA instead of a masters in biomedical sciences and get into dental school? Or would that not help out my application as opposed to if I did a masters in biomedical sciences?

Let's say you are applying to an accounting firm and to strengthen your application you decide you can pursue a masters. Would you choose a biomedical masters to try and get in?

Definitely a masters in biomedical sciences. Doing a masters not in the hard sciences may raise some red flags.

Not sure how much an MBA would help a dentist at all - aren't those more for networking/navigating the corporate world?

I mean some schools have DDS/MBA, but with a low sGPA, I wold definitely take a science masters.

Maybe a retake on the DAT if you are willing to grind out and get a 20+. A higher DAT score will benefit and a 19 there is realistic room for improvement. If you can get high subset scores, adcoms will be able to see that you obviously took the time to master the sciences and score well when tested. I think this can be as beneficial as getting the science gpa up.

Get an MBS. I would recommend the University of Northern Colorado's 1-year MBS program. They offered a distance ed. version of this for the first time this year. Keep in mind though, with that selection all exams and quizzes must be proctored through ProctorU.
