Rural medicine is the interdisciplinary study of health and health care delivery in rural environments. This means practicing in a rural community where doctors are few and far between. These physicians are called upon to perform a wider range of procedures than those in areas where doctors are plentiful. If you value public service this could be a good fit, and it would help if you are actually interested in living in a more rural environment. There are also loan forgiveness programs in a lot of states that are associated with practicing in medically underserved communities. Don’t know if I myself will go for it but I have looked into it.
