Rush Medical College Going down? HOLD FOR INTERVIEW?

Hey. I was wondering if Rush actually rejects people pre-interview or does everyone get on the hold for interview list. Is there anyone out there with a rejection from rush pre-interview?

Also I live in the Chicago area and I have heard from 2 different MD's that Rush is having problems and that the school will likely close soon. Has anyone else heard of something like this?

no, those rumors aren't true at all. they're actually currently expanding the facilities at rush, not closing them down. there have also been long-standing rumors that the med school at UIC and rush were going to merge (maybe that's what those doctors were referring to), but that's going nowhere too. keep in mind that there are few med schools out there that aren't having some kind of issue that could possibly be construed as some type of problem to someone out there. there are rumors that run the gamut from good to bad at any school.

Dude, I really hope not! I'm on hold for interview there, and my file is being reviewed again next week. I should know about an interview/rejection by next friday. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Considering the expansions they are currently doing, I have a hard time believing that they are in financial trouble.

I have also heard the rumor that they may merge with UIC. This one might actually be true, though. This has been a rumor for a while, so it's hard to say whether there's any truth to it. I think a lot of people hear this rumor and assume that it means Rush is closing. Not exactly - more of a merger of two schools than the shutting down of the one and aquisition by the other.

the UIC/Rush merger rumor is as old as time. its not going to happen. i seriously doubt it.

Imtiaz how do you know that your file will be reviewed next week? I called and they just said that they would be reviewing on a regular basis. Thanks for the info.

When I called this past friday they told me. All I said was "I'd like to check the status of my application please" and the lady went on to tell me a crapload of information. You could always just ask if they know when your file is going to be reviewed again. Good luck to you too man!
