Hello! I've received an acceptance from Rush and Wayne and was hoping to get some insight into peoples' thoughts and experiences with both programs.

Wayne
Pros
  • condensed curriculum (pre clinical 1.5 yr, clinical 2.5 yr)
  • very close to home, can commute and spend 0 on housing/cost of living
  • lower tuition
Cons
  • have heard the school is disorganized
  • large class size
  • interview felt disorganized

Rush
Pros
  • felt more welcomed at interview
  • smaller class size
  • chicago has a lot of research opportunities
Cons
  • a little bit further from home
  • higher tuition

Overall, I'm not leaning towards either school. I'm hoping to get a lot of research opportunities and go to a school that matches well. One thing that sticks out is the fact that Wayne has the condensed curriculum, which I think is a benefit now that step 1 is pass fail -- basically my thinking is that I will have more exposure in the clinic and gain more experience (eg. research) that will make me stand out from others. However, I feel like chicago has more research opportunities ... very hard to choose.

I would go with Wayne because it's cheaper and you're near a support network. I am a first year, but I would imagine having the extra clinic time would be supper beneficial in terms of clinical competency, as well as making connections with mentors, whether it be for research or simply just life advice. I will also note that you can literally do research on the other side of the country without leaving your desk if you reach out to enough people and network well.
